About the Designer
A Native Californian, Alita Van Vliet has been designing custom landscapes throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast since 1984 and holds a degree in Ornamental Horticulture with an emphasis in Landscape Design. She has a strong art background which is apparent in her garden design work. Her knowledge of plant material is extensive and her use of plant combinations is artful in itself as she takes into account texture, leaf and flower color bringing vibrancy and harmony to the landscape. She enjoys the extra touches and finishing details in the garden by integrating water features, garden sculpture, colorful pots and functional yet beautiful furniture. Her philosophy and approach is simple. From the initial client design meeting, to the delivery of final plans, good communication with the client is essential. Using photos, design books, and client images, she works closely with her clients with a goal to make each garden design truly unique and artisticly pleasing as well as functional. Working as a free lance designer and project manager as well as working for several years within a Design/Build Landscape firm her experience has taken her beyond the generation of plans and into the construction aspects of the business. Key to a good design is knowing how the industry works and the costs related to installation. As a client you can be confident in her abililties to design within your budget.
